Led Zeppelin Montreux Switzerland August 1971 at the Casino I was There

I was at this Led Zeppelin concert at the casino made famous by the song “Smoke on the Water” by deep Purple which Chronicles the burning down of the casino the night Frank Zappa and The Mother’s played there.  This is some 16mm film of what it was like.  We were right in front of the stage.  The venue was small, loud and absolutely crazy.  I handed Robert Plant a joint at the break, that is how close we were-look at the lower photo and we were to the left and at the front of Robert Plant.  It was an experience I’ll never forget and finding this video on YouTube was a thrill and I am happy to share a moment I thought lost.

The song Smoke on The Water-Deep Purple inspiration came from a fire at this casino December 4, 1971. The band was going to record their Machine Head album there right after a Frank Zappa concert, but someone fired a flare gun at the ceiling during Zappa’s show, which set the place on fire.
